Kristen R. Serna is a founding partner of Hammer Serna & Quinn, LLC. She focuses her practice solely on matrimonial matters including complex divorce litigation, allocation of parenting time and parental responsibilities, and the enforcement or modification of divorce judgments in Cook and Lake Counties.
Prior to founding Hammer Serna & Quinn, LLC, Kristen litigated for years under the mentorship of Howard H. Rosenfeld and Kathryn D. Farmer at Rosenfeld/Farmer. Kristen has worked with a wide range of cases involving closely-held corporations and trusts. Further, Kristen has litigated multiple cases involving the putative spouse doctrine in Illinois.
Kristen obtained her Juris Doctorate from Chicago-Kent, College of Law and her Bachelor’s Degree from Saint Mary’s College, Notre Dame, Indiana. She was selected as an Illinois Super Lawyers Rising Star for 2021 and 2022.
Kristen has accumulated a wealth of knowledge in the intricacies of Illinois divorce law through her resolution of a diverse docket of cases, including examinations into the validity and legality of the marriage itself, obtaining Orders of Protection for her clients, and the division of assets including small businesses and other highly valued personal assets..
Kristen recognizes the importance of understanding her client’s goals and values. With the professional relationship she establishes with her clients and her legal knowledge, Kristen provides her clients with forthright, consistent, and realistic evaluations on the issues and any possible complexities that may arise in her cases.
While Kristen has litigated with success in both Cook and Lake Counties, she is a strident advocate for the best interests of her clients and their children throughout the divorce process, utilizing all means available – including mediation and negotiating creative settlement agreement under the law. She will never be satisfied until she receives a just and equitable resolution for her clients.
Kristen is from Grayslake, Illinois and attended Carmel Catholic High School in Mundelein, Illinois. In 2007, she received her Bachelor’s Degree cum laude from Saint Mary’s College in Notre Dame, Indiana, majoring in History, with minors in Mathematics and English Writing.
Before beginning her legal career, Kristen was a youth advocate at Mercy Home for Boys & Girls in Beverly. In 2012, she received her Juris Doctorate from Chicago-Kent, College of Law where she spent several semesters on the Dean’s List.
Kristen is a member of the Illinois State Bar Association and the Lake County Bar Association.”
