Olivia Basu

Olivia is a Senior Associate at Hammer Serna & Quinn LLC and joined the firm in 2024. Olivia focuses exclusively on family law cases, which include divorce, custody/parenting issues (now known as allocation of decision-making and parenting time), child support and maintenance, intimate partner violence and prenuptial/postnuptial agreements. Prior to joining Hammer Serna & Quinn LLC, Olivia worked at a boutique family law firm for over 5 years. Olivia has considerable experience particularly with intimate partner violence cases and understands the complexities of working with intimate partner violence survivors. Olivia prides herself as being compassionate with her clients, excelling at working with high-conflict families, and having a high attention to detail. She understands this process can be extremely challenging for families and utilizes her experience and knowledge of this field to advocate best for her clients.

Olivia received her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Criminal Justice with a minor in Law and Public Policy from Indiana University in 2017. She subsequently received her Juris Doctor from DePaul University College of Law in May of 2020, with a certificate in Child and Family Law.

While attending DePaul University College of Law, Olivia volunteered with various organizations including the Domestic Violence Legal Clinic (now Ascend Justice) where she helped self-represented litigants obtain Emergency Orders of Protection. Olivia continued her relationship with Ascend Justice upon passing the bar and currently serves as Vice Chair of Administration for their Young Professional’s Board.

Olivia is a member of the Illinois State Bar Association (“ISBA”), ISBA’s Family Law Section Council, ISBA’s Young Lawyers Division, Associate Lady Lawyers (“ALL”), and the Women’s Bar Association of Illinois. She also serves as the American Bar Association Delegate for ISBA for attorneys under 35 for a two-year term and is an executive board member of the Young Professionals Board for Ascend Justice.

Olivia is originally from Virginia and moved to the Midwest for college. She is still acclimating to Chicago Winters. In her free time, she enjoys reading and traveling as much as possible. It is her bucket list goal to visit all seven continents
